Can We Prepare for the Pandemic Bird Flu Now?

By Dr Thomas Janossy – Oradix.com

This is a story that's unfolding before our very eyes: The H5N1 type A ‘pandemic’ bird flu has reached the EU and seems unstoppable. Furthermore, the ‘pandemic’ bird flu virus found in a 14-year-old Vietnamese girl was resistant to Tamiflu, the main drug that's being stockpiled by governments in case of a pandemic.

Honest doctors would tell you that medically, there is nothing that can be done for the flu. Doctors can’t even cure you from a ‘common’ flu, let alone a pandemic, killer version. If Tamiflu is widely used, the virus could mutate to a resistant variant by the time it reaches you. Pinning your hopes on Tamiflu or a flu vaccine could give you a false security. This is because only natural extracts offer virus-killing capabilities without damaging the immune system or the organs of your body.

While experts predictions of a global flu pandemic swings between the extremes, we need to know what we could do today to increase our chances for survival – if indeed the bird flu mutates to a pandemic killer. Avoid the herd mentality and put a plan in place BEFORE any panic would break out. You alone are ultimately responsible for your family!

History of Flu

Influenza pandemics have a predictable periodicity of 3 per century. Every 100 years or so a major pandemic occurs that is so severe, it dwarfs everything else by comparison. The last one of these was the 1918 Spanish flu when 60 to 100 million people died. The 1918 Spanish flu (H1N1) was associated with three waves while the 1958 Asian flu (H2N2) and 1968 Hong Kong flu (H3N2) pandemics had two distinct waves each. The time between two waves was 3 to 9 months and usually the second wave is far the most severe (strangely, the pattern is similar to the waves of the Asian tsunami).

During the Spanish flu in 1918, the deadly second wave was responsible for more than 90% of the deaths for the entire epidemic. The 1918 flu, like most pandemics, infected 40% to 50% of the world’s population with a case fatality rate (the percentage of those who become ill and die) of about 12%. The case fatality rate of the current flu is over 50% while the scale of outbreak in poultry is historically unprecedented.

Even during the relatively primitive travel conditions existing in 1918 it took only 6 weeks for the killer flu to spread from the US to Europe and Africa. The British Government’s Health Protection Agency predicts in their Influenza Pandemic Contingency Plan that once the first case of pandemic flu reaches Hong Kong, it will take only 2 to 4 weeks for the pandemic strain to arrive in the United Kingdom.

Vaccination

According to mainstream medicine, vaccination is the most effective method of protection against the killer flu, even if it’s considered only 70% effective in the prevention of influenza. Experts predict that the new, mutated killer flu would be antigenically different than the current H5N1 strain, requiring a new type of vaccine.

Normally it takes 6 to 8 months to produce vaccines using fertilized eggs. However, the H5N1 strain is so lethal that it often kills chicken embryo before the vaccine is produced. The other problem is lack of capacity. Today, world influenza vaccine capacity is just 300 million doses (in 8 months) which is only enough to protect less than 5% of the world’s 6.6 billion population.

You may have noticed the time gap. Once the pandemic starts, the killer flu could reach Canada in about a month but the first vaccines would be available only 5 to 7 months later, hopefully, before the second, most dangerous wave would hit us. Of course, vaccinated persons would still get the flu virus (and spread it further) but the symptoms would be milder.

Personally, I would never allow myself or my family to be vaccinated. The currently available flu vaccine is preserved with thimerosal, a highly toxic form of mercury. Mercury is linked to Autism and Alzheimer’s and other debilitating chronic diseases.

The Pandemic Plan

The more we prepare and the healthier we are in body, mind and spirit, the better our chances are to live in a new era after the coming turmoil. I selected a few approaches and products to give you only an idea of what we as a family do. Use as much or as little you think it’s appropriate in your situation. The key elements of our Family Pandemic Plan are the following:

(a)    Detoxification Comes First

Chronic diseases would sap our energy and hinder our flexibility in a disaster. Recent scientific studies confirm that by removing the toxins from our body and providing the right nutrients to our cells, it’s possible to avoid chronic, debilitating diseases! This is a revolutionary news. Most people still think of cancer or heart disease as they have nothing to do with them and no chance to avoid them. People tend to deflect responsibility by saying that “It’s in my genes” or “It’s in my family”.

Well, it can be in the family but it means that the person should work even harder to ‘turn on’ the bad genes. We know now that genes can be turned on or off even with the food we eat. But proper, holistic detoxification remains the absolute most important step you can doo for your health and well being.

Intelligent, holistic, full-body detoxification starts by a colon cleanse. A product like Oxy-Powder could do the job. The lymph, liver and kidney pathways should be opened up before larger amount of toxins are removed by some kind of chelation. Since toxic metals generate large amount of free radicals, their removal greatly reduces our anti-oxidant needs – seems to be a good idea when even basic vitamins or fresh food could be hardly available in a future hardship. Toxic heavy metals, such as mercury and lead, are implicated in heart disease, cancer, allergies, compromised immune system, learning difficulties and in all of the chronic diseases.

With chelation we also reduce our cancer mortality by a staggering 90%, reported in the Journal of Advancement of Medicine (read the whole article under ‘Studies’ at www.detoxamin.ca). We prefer to use Detoxamin, Kelatox or PCA-Rx for toxic heavy metal removal, since they are more effective than oral chelators and cost much less than IV chelation. Chelation is still the best kept secret for healthy living and I give regularly PCA-Rx (a sublingual spray) even to my children. The new, simple (and cheap) Heavy Metal Screen Test can measure the toxic metals within minutes in urine, saliva or any other fluid. However, I favor the Hair Test that gives a detailed analysis or the body’s toxic load and the nutritional imbalances. I do a Hair Test every year and correct my imbalances. I call the Hair Test my ‘Nutritional X-Ray’.

(b)   Lifestyle Adjustment and Fighting the Virus

We implemented a healthier lifestyle. We exercise regularly – preferably in the outdoors, eat better quality fresh and/or organic food (to reduce the toxic load) and take our supplements daily. We have less stress and increased quality family time as we never watch TV (we have only internet). We try to sleep better and longer, resulting in lowered stress and better immune functions. We are very pleased with the acquiring of a Lenyo Lux bioresonance device that can enhance the functional activity of the immune cells, according to research done at the University of Vienna. Bioresonce was developed by NASA (and the Russian military) and is the latest big thing entering now ‘sleepy’ North America (in Europe there are more than a million treatments every day!).

There are also case studies indicating that these type of devices could kill or reduce the virus load to the point where the body can fight the infection off. In a very recent case an ‘almost dead’ dog, suffering from a parvo viral infection, was turned around and seemingly cured with the Lenyo Lux.

The virus fighting capabilities of wild oil of oregano (confirmed by research studies) or the desert plant Larrea tridentate (currently tested against the influenza virus) give great hope when we face a flu pandemic. In fact, I already bought for my family several products, such as Oregacyn or Virox (LarreaRx), containing these natural extracts. Many great products and healing approaches are out there that should be considered for your particular situation.

(c) Securing a Safe Heaven

It’s almost unimaginable even to think about the breakdown of our society in a pandemic. Yet, due to the death of millions, societal breakdown would result in looting and serious energy (electricity, gasoline) and food shortages. We don’t have a cottage, but we think about finding a place for our family where we could go if indeed big cities would become just too dangerous to live in. The recent hurricanes propelled many to think over the options they have if some kind of disaster affects the place they live. We all wish that no major disaster would happen in our life but its better to have some plans in place to increase the chances of our family’s survival.

Rumsfeld's growing stake in Tamiflu

Defense Secretary, ex-chairman of flu treatment rights holder, sees portfolio value growing.
October 31, 2005: 10:55 AM EST
By Nelson D. Schwartz, Fortune senior writer

NEW YORK (Fortune) - The prospect of a bird flu outbreak may be panicking people around the globe, but it's proving to be very good news for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other politically connected investors in Gilead Sciences, the California biotech company that owns the rights to Tamiflu, the influenza remedy that's now the most-sought after drug in the world.

Rumsfeld served as Gilead (Research)'s chairman from 1997 until he joined the Bush administration in 2001, and he still holds a Gilead stake valued at between $5 million and $25 million, according to federal financial disclosures filed by Rumsfeld.

The forms don't reveal the exact number of shares Rumsfeld owns, but in the past six months fears of a pandemic and the ensuing scramble for Tamiflu have sent Gilead's stock from $35 to $47. That's made the Pentagon chief, already one of the wealthiest members of the Bush cabinet, at least $1 million richer.

Rumsfeld isn't the only political heavyweight benefiting from demand for Tamiflu, which is manufactured and marketed by Swiss pharma giant Roche. (Gilead receives a royalty from Roche equaling about 10% of sales.) Former Secretary of State George Shultz, who is on Gilead's board, has sold more than $7 million worth of Gilead since the beginning of 2005.

Another board member is the wife of former California Gov. Pete Wilson.

"I don't know of any biotech company that's so politically well-connected," says analyst Andrew McDonald of Think Equity Partners in San Francisco.

What's more, the federal government is emerging as one of the world's biggest customers for Tamiflu. In July, the Pentagon ordered $58 million worth of the treatment for U.S. troops around the world, and Congress is considering a multi-billion dollar purchase. Roche expects 2005 sales for Tamiflu to be about $1 billion, compared with $258 million in 2004.

Rumsfeld recused himself from any decisions involving Gilead when he left Gilead and became Secretary of Defense in early 2001. And late last month, notes a senior Pentagon official, Rumsfeld went even further and had the Pentagon's general counsel issue additional instructions outlining what he could and could not be involved in if there were an avian flu pandemic and the Pentagon had to respond.

As the flu issue heated up early this year, according to the Pentagon official, Rumsfeld considered unloading his entire Gilead stake and sought the advice of the Department of Justice, the SEC and the federal Office of Government Ethics.

Those agencies didn't offer an opinion so Rumsfeld consulted a private securities lawyer, who advised him that it was safer to hold on to the stock and be quite public about his recusal rather than sell and run the risk of being accused of trading on insider information, something Rumsfeld doesn't believe he possesses. So he's keeping his shares for the time being.

Donald Rumsfeld makes $5m killing on bird flu drug

By Geoffrey Lean and Jonathan Owen

Published: 12 March 2006

Donald Rumsfeld has made a killing out of bird flu. The US Defence Secretary has made more than $5m (£2.9m) in capital gains from selling shares in the biotechnology firm that discovered and developed Tamiflu, the drug being bought in massive amounts by Governments to treat a possible human pandemic of the disease.

More than 60 countries have so far ordered large stocks of the antiviral medication - the only oral medicine believed to be effective against the deadly H5N1 strain of the disease - to try to protect their people. The United Nations estimates that a pandemic could kill 150 million people worldwide.
